Book & Film Discussion: The Martian

May 18, 2018

What would you do if you were left alone on Mars? Red Hook Public Library invites you to join us at 5:30 pm on Friday, May 18th for a special sci-fi book and film discussion.

We will be discussing the bestselling book The Martian by Andy Weir, and the blockbuster film adaptation of the same name by Ridley Scott. The Martian centers on the fictional struggle for survival of Mark Watney, an Astronaut and botanist who, after a violent dust-storm, is accidentally left-for-dead on the surface of Mars. Attendees will view short segments of the film and discuss the fascinating science facts, and fantasies, contained in both the film and the book, as well as the faithfulness of the film to its source material.

Refreshments will be provided. This book discussion is made possible through the Pushing the Limits program series; a reading, viewing and discussion program for adults in communities served by rural libraries, made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
