Book Discussion @ Rhinebeck Aerodrome: “One Summer, America 1927” by Bill Bryson

September 27, 2018

Red Hook Public Library invites you to join us at 5:30 PM Thursday, September 27th at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum for a very special book discussion of One Summer, America 1927 by Bill Bryson.

One Summer is a lively, rollicking, and immensely enjoyable romp through America’s incredible summer of 1927. Bryson’s historically accurate recounting takes a tour through Jazz-Age scandal, Babe Ruth’s baseball heroics, Al Capone’s bootlegging empire, and notably the story of the 25-year old aviation prodigy Charles Lindbergh. Lindbergh famously flew a flimsy plane, The Spirit of St. Louis, across the Atlantic from Paris to New York, garnering incredible excitement in the United States, and across the world. Bryson, who writes with effervescent style, is the author of over a dozen other books, including A Short History of Nearly Everything and A Walk in the Woods.

The Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum is located at 9 Norton Road, Red Hook, NY  12571. The discussion will be at the outdoor pavilion facilitated by Michael Fisher of Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum. Prior to the discussion attendees will have the opportunity to see the Aerodrome’s own Spirit of St. Louis replica up close and personal.

This event is free and open to the public though due to limited space registration is required.  Call the library at 845-758-3241 to register.

This book discussion is made possible through the Pushing the Limits program series. Pushing the Limits is a reading, viewing and discussion program for adults in communities served by rural libraries, made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
