Friends of Red Hook Library
- The Friends of the Red Hook Public Library welcome you!
Dear Neighbor, January 2012
2011 was an unparalleled year for the Friends of the RHPL and we were not the only ones who thought so! Recognized by the New York Library Association (NYLA), we were awarded the prestigious 2011 Daniel W. Casey Award for outstanding service to the library and to our community.
Because of our efforts in fundraising and promoting the library and because of your generous support we were able to:
- Donate $10,000 towards the renovation of the new Children’s Library
- Help fund the Summer Reading Program which involved over 700 children
- Help fund Battle of the Books – a yearly reading competition for middle-school children, involving over
25 teams from the Hudson Valley - Participate in a Sister Library program with the Children’s Library of Mas’Ha, Palestine
- Complete the first stage of new landscaping for the library by partnering with Caleb Wootan as he worked
toward Eagle Scout - Organize fund raising activities with annual events such as the Trivia Contest and the Sonando benefit performance
- Host noted authors such as John Thorn, Jennifer Donnelly, Karen Russell and Sasha Charnin Morrison
- Promote the library by participation in community events such as Apple Blossom Day and Hardscrabble Day
- Donate an additional $5,000 for library programs and materials
The Friends of the Red Hook Public Library provide an opportunity for interested citizens to make a difference in our library and in our community by actively participating at our meetings, events and programs. Please consider coming to our meetings held at 6:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month at the library. If you can spare an hour or two of your time, or help with one activity or event this year, we can put your time to good use.
Your membership dues and donations as well as your participation at our events, enables us to continue to enrich the library and maintain the excellence of services and opportunities our library provides. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Sandra Martin
