The Defiance Project with Donna Jeffress
–
September 21, 2021
Inspired by Susan Stessin-Cohn & Ashley Hurlburt-Biagini's In Defiance: Runaways from Slavery in New York's Hudson River Valley, 1736-1831, The Defiance Project educates participants by humanizing and honoring the African people who toiled while enslaved, resisted as fugitives and ran for freedom in the Hudson Valley. Using a runaway notice, each participant will create a narrative and portrait of an enslaved individual who lived in Dutchess County. Gain a more thorough understanding of the present by learning a broader view of the past.
This 5-class series of events will take place at Red Hook Public Library. Email Amy@redhooklibrary.org to register.
