The hotspot lending program is a free service that allows Red Hook Public Library adult cardholders to borrow a mobile hotspot and connect to the internet from just about anywhere.

What is a hotspot?

A mobile hotspot device enables users to connect to the internet using a small box with a cell phone data plan that they can bring with them wherever they go. Similar to a data plan for a cell phone, as long as the device can connect to the cell tower, users can access the internet.

The mobile hotspot device itself emits a Wi-Fi signal that users can connect their personal devices to, like a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, in order to use the internet.

Who can borrow a mobile hotspot?

Anyone age 18+ with a Red Hook Public Library card in good standing and who signs a mobile hotspot agreement form can borrow a mobile hotspot. Borrowing a mobile hotspot device is limited to one checkout per household in a 90-day period. No holds are allowed.

For how long can I borrow a mobile hotspot?

You can check out and use a mobile hotspot for free for 21 days (from your pickup date) with no renewals. The wireless service on the mobile hotspot will be turned off if it is not returned on time.

If you return the mobile hotspot late you will be charged a fee of $5.00 per day until it is returned.

Borrowing a mobile hotspot device is limited to one checkout per household in a 90-day period.

Returning the mobile hotspot late or attempting to borrow for more than the limit may result in you losing your borrowing privileges.

Where do I check out and return the mobile hotspot?

You can check out a mobile hotspot at the adult circulation desk, and return the mobile hotspot at the adult circulation desk. Returning the hotspot in the drop box may result in you losing your mobile hotspot borrowing privileges. 

Are there any restrictions on data or internet use with the mobile hotspots?

Data usage is unlimited and internet content filtering is NOT provided through the mobile hotspot.

The Library does not track any internet usage. By using the mobile hotspot you are agreeing that you will not take part in any illegal activities.

The Library is not responsible for any files, data, or personal information accessed or transmitted using the mobile hotspot device.

What if I lose or damage the mobile hotspot?

If you lose or damage a mobile hotspot you will be charged a replacement fee. Replacement fees for lost or damaged hotspots are: $150

Can I renew a mobile hotspot?

No, mobile hotspots are not renewable.

How much does it cost to borrow a mobile hotspot?

There is no charge to borrow and use a mobile hotspot.
