Jack Kelly- Heaven's Ditch: God, Gold & Murder on the Erie Canal

September 9, 2016

Local Author Jack Kelly will be discussing his new book, Heaven's Ditch: God, Gold & Murder on the Erie Canal. Refreshments and book signing to follow. In this all new talk, Jack will discuss the Erie Canal murder that became the crime of the century. Mystery and intrigue galore!

From its completion in 1825, the Erie was not just a boon to business, but also a magnet for zealots, daredevils, criminals, and entrepreneurs. Treasure hunters sought gold while religious folk sought spiritual truths, and an era of cultural and economic change was born. Kelly’s book recalls this era, following the thrilling history of the canal from 1825 to 1844.

SPECIAL ADDED ATTRACTION: The New Lost Erie Ramblers will perform great old canal songs for your listening pleasure. Come and hear multi-talented guitarist/singer Mirko Gabler, fiddler extraordinaire Zoë Auerbach, and boss bassist Nick Edwards.

Free and open to the public. Event will take place at the Masonic Lodge located at 9 Graves Street in Red Hook.
